“The Volker Residence Restoration was an independent study created with the intent of researching the design and overall history of the Modernism and Mid-Century Modern movements to challenged us to restore a 1950 home to its original state. With the intrigue on restoring their 1950s Mid Century Prairie Modern home, the Voelker’s reached out to the Interior Design department to help. The original owners, the Moorshead’s, moved from California in the 1950 to Newton Kansas in order to be closer to more family and bring the booming Modern style in California at the time to central Kansas. The way the research was conducted was interview format with the now owners, as well as additional research with the Harvey County Historical Museum and Archives and online resources. The result was a fully designed proposed floorplan with resources from the history of the family as well as background of the design movement.”
