Using Trauma-Informed Principles in Planned care settings for older adults
“This paper and design project explore how the design of planned care settings can be more responsive to older adults’ needs and the potential experiences of trauma throughout their life course. Using the person-environment fit theory and residential normalcy theory, this paper and design project examine how planned care settings can be designed with characteristics that are positively perceived by older adults, thus leading to more successful aging. In addition, traumatic experiences throughout the life course affect health outcomes in late adulthood. This paper and design project propose how the trauma-informed framework can be used to respond environmentally to older adults’ experiences of potential traumatic experiences, thus creating more inclusive and holistic planned care environments.”
