The Ramey Apartment: A Design Supportive of Individuals with ASD

The goal of human ecology is primarily focused on the health and wellbeing of individuals, and as interior designers, we specifically focus on the creation of physiologically and psychologically supportive environments for all humans. The Ramey Apartment is designed to support the resident family, especially, the youngest child, Daniel. In the project statement, Daniel is described as particularly sensitive to light types and intense colors as a result of hypersensitive autism. The design uses colored glass panels and sunlight to represent the seasons of fall, winter, spring, and summer. This provides stimulation and wayfinding that has been shown to positively impact Daniel.
