Stitched Emotions
“150 years ago, in 1870, Kansas permitted the development of an academic program that would empower women through a college education. These first courses included cooking and sewing, to help improve family life and productivity in the Midwest (Kansas State University, 2021). Inspired by women, the fearless, passionate, and throughout history keep persisting for equal rights. On average, there are about 463,634 victims (age 12 or older) of sexual violence each year in the United States (RAINN, 2022). These survivors such as Simone Biles and Gloria Allred, resonate with my own traumas from sexual violence and the long-term effects it causes. Long-term effects can impact a survivor’s psychological, emotional, and physical well-being. Resulting in depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, flashbacks, dissociation, panic attacks, and self-harm. (RAINN, 2022). Craftivism gives me a way to express my emotions and to share it with others who might resonate with it and feel inspired.”
