Something Old, Something New

“The purpose of Something Old, Something New was to 1) design a cohesive collection for a unique target market and 2) execute the patternmaking, fit, and construction of one of those designs using flat pattern techniques. For my collection, I decided to target soon-to-be brides who are interested in sustainability and desire multiple wedding day looks. As a result, I designed a convertible bridal collection inspired by second-hand fabrics I found in my area. To construct my chosen look, I created my pattern with flat pattern techniques. I took my time trying to achieve the correct fit and required many mock-ups and revisions. The outcome is a soft tea-length gown that can transform into a short reception dress. Garment features include adjustable seams, removable sleeves, and an overskirt with applique details. Many thanks to Melanie from Celebrations of the Heart for her generous donation of the applique which supported my theme and helped to complete this look.”
