“The goal of this project was to create a home for the Smith family accommodating to their needs individually and their needs as a family. The family consisted of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, their 3 children, Liam, Noah, and Nicole and their grandmother who frequently visited. Other requirements included creating a home that was safe for their son Noah as he has ASD. This impacted not only the design of Noah’s room but the entire house to create an environment where he felt comfortable, safe, and in control. Along with this, other design choices were taken into consideration when thinking about the parents getting older through the years and their elderly grandmother. The overall design of the house followed the concept, together but separate. In many rooms spaces were included for the family to be together and spaces for them to be apart. This allowed them to maintain their personal space and individuality while also sharing same spaces and growing together as a family.”
