“Designers are often expected to act upon less than clear direction, a nebulous design problem, or constantly changing, and even conflicting sets of parameters. Learning to quickly process available inputs, learn from precedents, make strategic choices, and adapt that information to advance your present design challenge is a critical soft skill to master.

This project was an experimental and informative exhibit or museum based on anything you are passionate about. I determined the design problem for this project. I am very passionate about global warming. The purpose of my project is to address the current and ongoing issue of fast fashion and how clothing waste is significantly contributing to global warming, water consumption, and energy emissions. Precedent research was used to begin my project. I did research on the fashion industry, individual fashion impact, and the consumption and waste for each of those. I then used my research to show what you can do to help. The organization of the exhibit was derived from the look of a textile weave, allowing people to weave through the building seeing the problem and ending at a solution. After receiving statistics, I was able to create an exhibit that had tanks and displays to demonstrate the waste of the fashion industry and each individual’s clothing waste. At the end of the exhibit, there are boards that tell you what you can do to help. There is also a solution provided at the end of the exhibit, a secondhand retail store. The retail store accepts donations of clothes and resells them. To prevent clutter, there is an online shopping option for extra stock and a clothing designer at the back of the store that can repurpose old and unwanted clothing items and turn them into new desired pieces.”
