Recitative: The Murder of Gucci

“In the past, Gucci has created a collection titled Aria and another titled Overture. The aria and overture are two of three movements in an opera. The other movement is the recitative which is an unbiased monologue usually revealing a new element to the opera. For this trend board, I forecasted the split color trend for the spring-summer 2022 collection for Gucci and soft accessories such as pearls, elbow-length gloves, and fur coats as its supporting trend. The split color trend is when a garment is two different colors on a respective side of the garment. On March 27, 1995, Maurizio Gucci was gunned down and killed in front of his Milan office. The identity of his killer remained a mystery for almost two years until it was revealed that his ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani hired a hit man to murder him. Recitative illustrates the murder of Maurizio Gucci in the loud, glamorous, and alluring spirit of the time. I used the split color trend to illustrate the duality between the dark history of Gucci and the clean image they have always portrayed. Society tends to gloss over the darker aspects of money, fame, and power. This trend board is meant to showcase both the glamorous and darker elements behind Gucci’s rise to prominence and the dark road traveled to reach infamy.”
