On the BEam
“In Flat Patternmaking, we were challenged to create a full ensemble using flat pattern drafting techniques. On the beam, is inspired by revolutionary women in history who broke gender norms and followed their passions. Women such as Amelia Earhart and Nelly Don are my main inspirations focused on coveralls specifically from the 1940s. During WWI&II women joined the workforce and that required the need for garments that provided freedom of movement. I wanted to make a garment that a modern-day expressive individual would wear but still comfortable for physically demanding jobs and occupations. ”
