fast fashion generates massive disposal of garments “The purpose of this paper is to provide knowledge of the consequences of the afterlife of a garment, consumer’s disposal that has contributed to massive landfill waste, and actions that are being taken to create a sustainable discard of garments. One person alone disposes of 68 pounds of textiles which means that the world is discarding 12.7 million tons each year (Cline, 2012). Due to this massive number of discarded textiles, there is an economic struggle in the third world countries and the release of greenhouse gases. To understand the apparel and textile industries inner-workings, this paper uses many sources that have investigated garments before, during, and after it reaches the consumers. These sources have therefore brought forth the steps being taken to reduce the release of greenhouse gases and economic problems in third world countries. Consumers have a lack of knowledge in the recycling of their textiles, so the industry is creating chemicals to increase the disintegration of textiles, creating garments made for disposal, and using fabric mills. In addition, consumers are given options to ensure that their textiles are fully in use before disposal. Cline, E. L. (2012). Overdressed: The shockingly high cost of cheap fashion.
