For the Love of Texture
“This micro collection of garments was inspired by fabrics and trims that I found over the semester. I was drawn to the juxtaposing textures of the ruffled tulle, chainette fringe, and chunky woven plaid. I wanted to find a way to incorporate these textures into wearable garments that are timeless and can be worn in any season. For the first look, I started with the fringe, making a boxy top inspired by the Western fashion that enthralls Kansas and pairing it with a chunky plaid skirt, contrasting between the rigid and soft textures. I also wanted to balance out the masculine base top with the curvy hips in the skirt. For the second look, I found ruffled tulle and made an overskirt for an upcycled dress. I added a satin waistband to juxtapose the rough woven texture of the dress and the airy texture of the ruffled tulle.”
