“In flat pattern making we learned to create and fit our designs to a mannequin. In this course, I learned essential skills to pattern manipulation and creation and this look showcases that. I have never sewn with georgette or brocade before, so research was crucial to understanding the techniques necessary to sew these specialty fabrics. Sewing the georgette button-up was exceptionally difficult because every crease, fold, and seam was visible from the outside due to the translucent nature of the fabric. From this project I not only learned how to draft patterns on my own but also new sewing techniques I can continue to use throughout my life.”
