“The purpose of this research is to design adaptive clothing for individuals affected by limb loss in a novel way that is customizable and cross-functional for the average consumer. Currently, clothing designed for those living with limb loss is sparse; existing designs lack especial attention and do not appear like clothing available to the broader market. This can be difficult for those living with limb loss, causing them to limit their wardrobe selection or make alterations to regular clothes. In order to understand the target market a Qualtrics survey was created to reach out to individuals affected by limb loss and able-bodied people. This data was then used to create pieces that could increase the inclusivity of adaptive apparel and therefore its commercial use. As a result, items such as a sweat jacket with two zips off points on the arms and to appeal to the mass consumer: the ability to make this sweater cropped.”
