It’s Not All about Business!
“The purpose of this project was to create a blazer using Simplicity 1421 Women's Unlined Collared Jacket Sewing Patterns. Fabrics that had to be used were either wool, fur, fabric with a distinctive pattern such as herringbone, or flannel to challenge students in their fabric techniques. When creating this blazer, I chose to modify the pattern by cropping it, changing the pockets and buttonholes to a welt design, and adding a lining. The reason for these changes is that I wanted to give a higher-end appeal to my blazer as well as match the trends seen today. In the end, the blazer came out better than expected for the first try, and on future projects, there will be a few changes regarding matching, lining, and placement of welt designs. To complete the look, I chose to make a top and skirt that can be used for a night out after a long stressful day of work. It is not always about just having your life together and I wanted to create a piece that can be used for more than one setting. This project ties into Our 150-year Legacy of Excellence & Empowerment because as many of us know the pioneers before us wore similar jackets but were mostly a shirt. This type of garment is not new but has evolved and continues to do so even with future generations.”
