“In this family retreat lake house design project, the relationship of interior and exterior was explored as they each influence each other greatly. Accommodations for the Green family of four were met through creative and simple designs. Located on Milford Lake in Junction City, KS, this family wanted a relaxing space where they could escape from their busy lives and enjoy each other's company and bond as a family. Keeping the design open and simple allows for a calm environment while being able to enjoy the nature surrounding the home. Because of these qualities, it promotes family interaction and human connection throughout the entire home. Through iterations of this demanding design of the clients’ needs, all the families' accommodations were met. This design is communicated through hand drafted and rendered drawings as well as a three-dimensional model to help fully understand the relationship between interior and exterior. The final design consists of distinct separation from private and public spaces, clear circulation, and responded to the home's exterior structural form and the environment of the site surrounding it. Introduction to new design aspects through this project allowed for personal growth that focused on people’s well-being, their interaction with others and their environment.”
