Fit for Comfort
“The purpose of this project was to explore a new target market and address a challenge that the market faces when purchasing ready-to-wear. I chose the middle-aged plus-sized target market. I designed a 4-piece collection that focused on combatting issues in key locations in which they were struggling to be comfortable in their own skin. Some key issues I looked at were women being self-conscious in their arms, mid-section, and bust coverage. I chose to design an ankle pant alternative as many ankle pants don’t fit properly as they are too tight to get on. This project allowed me to understand differences between the misses and plus-size bodies. It was very important for me to research and consult not only consumers of this market but also technical designers on how to approach achieving the desired fit. I added princess seams to the button-down top to allow for the largest bust projection and less gapping at the buttons. I also added ease in the back and arms to allow for better mobility throughout the day. The pants, I designed with a unique cuff on the bottom to allow these women to feel comfortable wearing the ankle pant style. This project embodies our 150-year Legacy of Excellence and Empowerment because this project is all about empowering women to be comfortable inside their own bodies. As designers at KSU, we are always challenged to be our best people and help create positive change for others. This look allows our consumers to be comfortable throughout the day while not worrying about being uncomfortable or vulnerable during their busy days.”
