“The purpose of the jeans project was to learn how to create a fit for oneself while also learning alternation techniques. This project was my first sewing assignment in the Fashion Design Sequence. I learned how to adjust patterns to find the right fit for my body. Making these jeans, I learned to use the many different machines we had in class and proper technique for construction. To add visual interest, I stitched wave lines on the pocket. These wave lines were taken from another project I created where the textile patterns were inspired by the desert. I also made a denim top of the same material as my jeans to create one cohesive look. Without the experience I gained from making my jeans, I don’t think I would’ve been equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to create the corset top and complete this look. “
