“Candy canes served as the inspiration for this matching shirt and skirt. I wanted to draw attention to the playful fabric by pairing it with a simple garment pattern. To make it more interesting, I chose three different striped fabrics. I selected shirting cotton for all three of my textiles, which is breathable and ideal for the warmer months. To complete this project, I first drew a sewing pattern based on the dimensions of the form I would be using. Next, I constructed a mock prototype out of muslin to check the pattern's fit. Then I proceeded with the shirting materials I had chosen for the outfits and sew all the parts together, including hand attaching the buttons to the shirt, after testing it on and taking the required chances for a fantastic fit. The finished blouse and skirt showcase my ability to create patterns and construct clothing in a distinctive, eye-catching way. This project also demonstrates the creativity and attention to detail needed to make lovely, one-of-a-kind garments.”
