“The purpose of this project was to create a line with 3-5 ensembles and centers around our ability to create textiles using the Adobe platforms. I came up with Back to the Roots, a collection based on encouraging others who are craving to know more about their cultural heritage and features to explore. I choose to focus on Africa because that is the continent I was born in and wanted to know more about. After coming up with the concept, I started creating the textiles using Adobe software which involved also investigating more into the meanings of symbols, mammals, and art in Africa. The challenge was often trying to make the story not too complex while also trying to create textiles that will intrigue the audience. I was able to create five cohesive looks with the use of textiles that can tell the story on their own. This project embodies the showcase theme, Our 150-year Legacy of Excellence & Empowerment because it has to do with learning more about oneself which many have done by exploring higher education and enabling future men and women to grow in careers in Health and Human Sciences.”
